Department of Health and Human Services announced on Nov. 27, 2013 that the online functionality of the federal SHOP marketplace is delayed until November, 2014.
- The online portion of the SHOP marketplace will be fully functional no later than November 2014.
- Small business owners will be able to purchase insurance through the marketplace exactly as they do now in the outside market—either through a broker or directly from an insurance company offering plans on the state’s SHOP marketplace.
Instead of the online marketplace, small employers who wish to purchase insurance through the SHOP can do so the same way they have purchased insurance in the past.
Filling out the application will give you a host of plans at various costs and coverage lengths to choose from, covering preventative care, essential health benefits and pre-existing conditions.
